HIGGINS The family of the late Bill Higgins would like to thank family and friends for the support, messages of sympathy and condolences which we have received from all over the world. Thanks to Father Jamie Boyle for the comforting funeral service and to family and friends who attended. Mass will be offered for the intentions of all. Bill was a unique and remarkable man who will be sadly missed by many.

Report this message By Clare Harker on 17th May 2010For me it's the conversation. An interesting and interested man. He told hilarious stories describing every colourful character who ever went down the Polmaise pit.....including 'Grandad'. He had tales of amazing adventures from trips around the world. Every story had a punchline and he would laugh with his whole body, face smiling, eyes shining and shoulders shrugging. You couldn't help but join in. He never judged anyone by what they had achieved or how much they had. If anything he would look at how they loved and were loved. Family, not only his wife, his children and his grandchildren but also his brother, sister, nieces, nephews, friends....all of us were his family and at least once a year we would have a conversation where he made sure we all knew how important family was to him. He was so proud of his children and his grandchildren and cherished all the times spent with them.
When I think of Uncle Bill, I know I will remain overwhelmingly sad, but I will also smile...and maybe even laugh when I think of him sitting, whiskey in hand, reminiscing and bringing all his memories so wonderfully to life.
Thank you Uncle Bill
With love

Report this message By Dianne Higgins-Evans on 13th May 2010To a great uncle and a fascinating man, always so kind, the perfect gentleman. Always a smile upon you're face, took life in you're stride, with ease and grace. Not a more proud miner there could ever be, with you're miners award and you're MBE. A loving family man, who gave people his time, always helping others which made you shine. From 1935 to 2010, you are only one man, but you gave the love of a hundred men. There are not enough words to describe how much you are missed, but i have tried with this poem to add to the list. Now you're up in heaven like a star shinning bright, looking down on everyone, such a beautiful sight. Thinking of you, tears of happiness we will cry, this is only the begining, never goodbye. One day soon, we will all be together, one big happy family, forever and ever.
Miss you Uncle Bill. xxxx
